When I started to assemble this series after disembarking so-called Ship Life, I intended this to be a logbook. The log of ports of call that shows our living world as a whole new world and reminds me how precious our everyday life is.
But that was the time when traveling around the world was taken for granted. Now, after the pandemic, I think this series has more meaning to me.
It is surely still my cherished logbook, but now on top of that, I think it also has a role as something similar to a passport. Or should I say seaman’s book as an ex-seafarer? The scenes in this series make me feel that I’m still linked to overseas. They remind me once again that the edge of our living world is the gateway to another. As if the pieces of the puzzle that had fallen apart were reassembled, they helped me to imagine again that the world is still connected and spreading out there widely.
Since we are still facing difficult times, and I suppose many people are got stuck in a small world, my aim with this series is to share these diverse and expansive atmospheres around ports and hopefully to broaden the shrunken world in our minds.
