The world is widely open and connected — this thought, I have been taken for granted for a long time, is now wavering due to Covid-19 pandemic. The world has been chopped into pieces, and now I’m only allowed to stroll around the piece nearby.

The series Port and Starboard is my attempt to reassemble the pieces of vast and diverse scenes from our planet that I have encountered during my career on the cruise ships, so that I can imagine again that the world is still connected and spreading out there widely, which helps me to keep my hope alive.

I set the series into diptychs because I wanted to simultaneously depict how diverse our living world is as well as how magnificent is the Mother Nature, and I do also believe that the connectivity and harmonies of these elements make this planet so special.
